Emmanuelle Verset is one of only two women running a domaine in Cornas, and she farms inherited plots of ancient vines in storied sites like Champelrose, Les Mazards, and Reynard, with an average vine age around 60 years and some over a century old. The granite hillsides here, baked by Northern Rhone sun, give Syrah extraordinary intensity, and Emmanuelle works it traditionally: 100% whole-cluster fermentation, no new oak, organic farming with cover crops. The 2023 is a generous, sturdy vintage. This is serious, savory Cornas that rewards a few hours in a decanter now and will reward patience over the next decade-plus.
