The flagship white from Alphonse Mellot, the 19th of his name and one of the most talented vignerons in all of Sancerre, a rare master equally gifted with red and white. La Moussiere is the domaine's tete-de-cuvee: a single ~30-hectare vineyard farmed biodynamically since 1999, where Kimmeridgian limestone meets the chalky marls of Saint-Doulchard. Everything is hand-harvested at low yields, and the wine rests seven to eight months on fine lees for texture. This is Sauvignon Blanc as true vin de terroir, mineral and precise rather than loud. A benchmark Sancerre to drink now or hold a few years.
