Bodegas Vinatigo, Vijariego Blanco, 2024
Founded in 1990 by Juan Jesus Mendez, a 4th-generation grower, starting with hundred-year-old vines in the Cabo Verde vineyard. The first wines were made at his grandparents' old cellar in La Guancha, northwest Tenerife. Since 1990, Vinatigo has worked to recover almost extinct Canary Island grape varieties, collaborating with Fernando Zamora from Rovira I Virgili University to identify more than 80 different indigenous varieties. Vijariego Blanco is characterized by great adaptability and high acidity. The estate was the first winery in Spain to obtain ISO 9000 quality certification. Juan Jesus's son Jorge now helps with viticulture and winemaking.
