Boundary Breaks farms the east shore of Seneca Lake in New York's Finger Lakes on land that has stayed in the same family since 1850. Owner Bruce Murray acquired the 120-acre property in 2007 and planted the estate vineyard in 2013 with Cabernet Franc and other cool-climate varieties. The 2024 blend is 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot, with 85% of the Cabernet Franc and all Merlot from Boundary Breaks' estate, supplemented by older (2005-planted) Cabernet Franc from nearby Wagner. Grapes are de-stemmed, fermented in stainless steel, then transferred to 2-year-old oak for malolactic fermentation before 10 months in second-use French oak. The result is lithe, light-bodied, and refreshing: black pepper and red fruit aromas, elegant tannins, and the brightness that defines cool-climate Finger Lakes reds. A natural match for Cornell chicken.
