Bruno Giacosa, Barolo, 1989
Bruno Giacosa's standard Barolo from the legendary 1989 vintage — thirty-six years on, museum territory. Giacosa purchased Falletto in 1980 and from 1982 had estate fruit to bottle separately under the Falletto designation; this generic "Barolo" bottling (no cru, no Riserva) was a parallel cuvée drawn from his network of Serralunga and surrounding-commune contracted growers, which is how Bruno had built his reputation since the 1960s as the master selector of Piedmont. 1989 was a legendary classical vintage — long, slow ripening, structured wines that have aged magnificently. A piece of Giacosa history from the era when the producer-selector role still defined his house. A bottle to share with someone who knows what they're holding.
