Langoa Barton is the 3rd Growth sister estate to Leoville Barton, both farmed by the Barton family for over two centuries, both made in the same cellar by the same hands. Where Leoville commands the spotlight, Langoa is the quieter, slightly suppler twin, and in great vintages it can be just as compelling for a fraction of the fuss. 2005 is one of the legendary modern Bordeaux vintages, deeply structured and built for very long aging. Twenty years on, this Saint-Julien is approaching peak: the tannins have softened into velvet, the cedar and graphite have settled in, and the fruit is shifting from primary to savory. A classical Left Bank claret in a perfect drinking window.
