Clemens Busch, Riesling GG Marienburg Fahrlay, 2024 [Pre-Arrival ETA 7/15]

This is the blue-slate cru of Clemens Busch's Marienburg, and the whole point of it is tension. Fahrlay is the only parcel of blue slate the Busches farm on this steep Pundericher hillside, and it gives a Riesling that hums with sizzling acidity, salinity, and a floral lift you don't get from the red or gray soils next door. Busch has farmed here organically since 1984 and biodynamically since 2005, one of the Mosel's true pioneers; this is a bone-dry Grosses Gewachs (grand cru) from vines up to 80 years old, spontaneously fermented and raised in the estate's ancient 1,000-liter Fuder casks.
