Clos Naudin (Foreau), Vouvray Sec, 2020
Domaine du Clos Naudin was founded in 1923 and is now run by Vincent Foreau, who took over from his father Philippe in 2016. The estate is tiny at 11.5 hectares, centered on a single exceptional site called Le Mont. The 2020 Sec is bone-dry but far from minimal: it is layered, tightly wound, and shaped by the limestone-rich soils of Vouvray. When Foreau issues a Sec, residual sugar is between 1 and 2 grams but never exceeding 6 grams; the vibrant acidity makes the wine taste scintillatingly dry despite considerable body and honeyed texture. The wine ages eight months in 300-liter barrels at 12.5 percent alcohol, emerging with the focus and complexity that only true limestone terroir and careful winemaking can produce.
