Cobb Wines, Chardonnay H. Klopp Vineyard, 2022
H. Klopp sits in the lower Sebastopol Hills at 350 feet, on the Goldridge sandy loam that defines great west Sonoma Chardonnay. Planted in 2013 by Ted and Lauren Klopp to a heritage mix — Robert Young, Old Wente, Mt. Eden, UCD4 — the site catches enough maritime air to keep things tight while ripening cleanly. Ross Cobb hand-harvests, whole-cluster presses, and ferments with native yeasts in French oak. The 2022 unfurls slowly: baked peach, jasmine, bread dough, allspice, and a flinty maritime edge, with silky texture and the kind of seamless oak integration that disappears into the wine. One of the most quietly compelling Chardonnays coming out of Sonoma right now.
