Domaine de Chevalier, Pessac-Leognan, 2015
A textbook Pessac-Leognan from one of the appellation's historic Cru Classes, hitting its stride. Domaine de Chevalier was classified for both red and white in 1959 and has been led by the Bernard family since 1983; Olivier Bernard runs the estate with sons Adrien and Hugo. The 2015 grand vin is a Cabernet-dominant Bordeaux blend from the gravelly soils of Leognan, aged in French oak. The vintage was a benchmark on Bordeaux's Left Bank, ripe but classically structured, and at ten years in bottle the wine is just beginning to show its secondary side, cedar and tobacco emerging beneath still-vibrant fruit. Drink now with a decant, or hold confidently into the late 2030s.
