Domaine Lignier-Michelot, Fixin 1er Cru Arvelet, 2023
Fixin sits at the very northern tip of the Côte de Nuits, a sleepy village in Gevrey-Chambertin's shadow — which is exactly why it's one of the smartest stops for serious Burgundy without the Gevrey premium. Les Arvelets is one of Fixin's handful of 1er Crus, a slope that gives darker, more structured Pinot than the village norm. Virgile Lignier runs the family Domaine Lignier-Michelot from his home base in Morey-Saint-Denis (distinct from Hubert Lignier or Lucie & Auguste Lignier), and his Fixin gets the same low-intervention, whole-cluster handling as the bigger wines. 2023 here shows generous black-fruited density wrapped around firm, fine tannins. Built to reward five to ten years in the cellar but already vivid with an hour in a carafe.
