A Côte de Nuits hand turning his attention to Côte de Beaune fruit — and the results are exactly what you'd hope. Domaine Lignier-Michelot is a Morey-Saint-Denis family estate (do not confuse with Hubert Lignier or Lucie & Auguste Lignier — these are separate domaines, all related, all good). Virgile Lignier has run things since 2000, taking over from his father Maurice. The house style is classical Morey: lots of whole-cluster, gentle remontage rather than punchdowns, modest new oak. Savigny is well outside the home base but it's a smart village to play in — affordable Burgundy fruit shaped by a Morey sensibility. The result is supple, slightly wild, perfumed, drinking well young. 2023 brought ripeness with freshness intact.
