Gerard Boulay, Sancerre La Cote, 2017
La Côte comes from the grand La Grande Côte vineyard on the slopes of Chavignol—a south to southeast-facing hillside planted on pure Kimmeridgian limestone. Its late-picked fruit and coolest terroir deliver density and absurd precision. The 2017 shows both fleshiness and tension: full and fleshy from the site's richness, yet pulled taut by fine acidity and mineral notes that land somewhere between struck flint and iodine. Vinified and aged in three and four-year-old barrels, it's an expression of terroir over varietal character.
