Giuseppe Rinaldi, Barolo Brunata, 1993 (1.5L)
A magnum of one of Beppe Rinaldi's first vintages running the family estate, made the year after his legendary father Battista's death in 1992. 1993 was a cool, lighter vintage in Piedmont, and this Brunata bottling (an older spelling of the Brunate cru) is a classic example of how Rinaldi's traditionalist hand produced wines of lift and detail even in difficult years. The 1993 was in fact Beppe's first vintage labeled Brunate-Le Coste (a blend of approximately 60% Brunate and 40% Le Coste); under Battista the Brunate fruit had been bottled as a separate Selezione in the best years rather than as a Brunate/Le Coste blend. Thirty-two years on and in magnum format, this is fully mature cult Rinaldi from the dawn of the Beppe era.
