Gunderloch, Riesling GG Pettenthal, 2023

Pettenthal is one of the Rheinhessen’s most iconic sites, a steep slope of iron-rich red slate that gives Riesling both tension and flesh. Gunderloch, a historic estate now led by Johannes Hasselbach, continues to make some of the region’s most precise and expressive Grosses Gewächs bottlings—and the 2023 Pettenthal is no exception.

This vintage shines with electric citrus—lime, grapefruit peel, and white peach—wrapped in floral lift and a clear core of wet stone and warm slate. The palate is razor-sharp but layered, with mouthwatering acidity and a salty, dry finish that goes on and on. It’s serious, but not stiff; a wine that balances power with grace.
