The Wintricher Geierslay is a fierce south-facing wall of purple slate and quartzite, tilted at a dizzying 55 degrees in a side valley off the Mosel. "GW" stands for Grosses Wintricher, Stefan Steinmetz's in-house name for his top dry Riesling from the site, his own equivalent of a grand cru. This bottling comes from vines around sixty years old and went through malolactic fermentation, giving it a phenolic grip and savory depth on top of the site's stony intensity.
