Jean-Philippe Fichet, Chassagne-Montrachet, 2024
Jean-Philippe Fichet is best known as a master of Meursault, but he also makes a small amount of wine just down the road in Chassagne-Montrachet, one of the great white Burgundy villages. His approach travels with him: hand-farmed Chardonnay, a patient 18-month elevage in mostly used wood and then tank, and very little lees stirring, all aimed at freshness, transparency and length rather than weight or oak. Chassagne brings its own taut, chiseled, saline character to the mix. The 2024 vintage is fresh and precise. A village-level wine with real cut and class, drinking well young but with room to develop over several years.
