Limnad, Pinot Noir Rose Pet Nat, 2025
The fun-loving sister act to one of the Finger Lakes' most serious sparkling projects. Limnad is the label Nancy Irelan and Mike Schnelle (of Red Tail Ridge on Seneca Lake) reserve for their bubbly — debuting in 2025, splitting time between méthode champenoise wines and these immediate, joyful pétillant naturels. Nancy brought a Ph.D. in grape genetics and twelve years running Gallo's viticulture R&D before going regenerative in the Finger Lakes; the winery is LEED Gold certified, runs on geothermal, and uses a weed knife instead of herbicides. The Pinot Rosé Pet Nat is bottled before fermentation finishes so the bubbles form naturally in-bottle, then released more or less immediately — sometimes still working. Pale, dry, lightly hazy, brightly fruited Pinot Noir with a snap of CO2 and zero pretense.
