Lorenzo Accomasso, Barbera d'Alba Pochi Filagn', 2018

Pochi Filagn means "few rows" in Piemontese dialect, an apt name for this micro-cuvee from Lorenzo Accomasso's tiny La Morra holding. Lorenzo, who died in August 2025 at 91, was a hermit-traditionalist who treated Barbera with the same Barolo-grade patience he gave his Nebbiolo: old vines, extended maceration, and years in large neutral Slavonian botti. Total production is well under 2,000 bottles. The 2018 vintage was warm and classical in Piemonte, producing Barberas of unusual depth and structure; ten years on, this one has shed any youthful aggression and entered a fully mature drinking window. A rare chance to taste old-school Barbera from a master who never compromised on anything.
