Lorenzo Accomasso, Barolo Riserva Annunziata, 2011

Lorenzo Accomasso was the legendary hermit of La Morra, a tiny-production traditionalist who farmed his Rocche dell'Annunziata parcels in the manner of Bartolo Mascarello: fifty-plus-day macerations in concrete, five-plus years in 50-hectoliter Slavonian botti, no fining, no filtration, almost nothing added. Lorenzo passed in August 2025 at 91, having spent his final decades working alongside his sister Elena (and after her death in 2016, largely alone). These late-career Riservas are essentially unrepeatable. The 2011 is from a warm, generous vintage that gave Lorenzo's wine an unusually plush surface over its bedrock of classical structure — a Riserva that's drinking beautifully right now while showing the patience of his long aging.
