Margherita Otto, Barolo, 2015

Margherita Otto is the cult Barolo project of Alan Manley, an American who moved to Piedmont and spent years working at the right hand of Maria Teresa Mascarello in the cellar of Bartolo Mascarello. In 2015 he launched his own estate, named for his grandparents, and he makes Barolo in the unmistakable Mascarello mold: a single, harmonious blend assembled in a continuous fermentation across tiny, hand-picked parcels — including a half-hectare bordering Ginestra in Monforte and a steep slope in Castiglione Falletto's Pernanno. The 2015 was Alan's debut vintage. Warm, classical, and generous, it shows everything Mascarello taught him about blending vineyards into something greater than any single cru.
