Matthieu Barret, (Domaine du Coulet) Cornas Billes Noires, 2021 (Pre-sale, wine arrives 7/16/26)

This is Cornas at full intensity. Matthieu Barret is a seventh-generation vigneron who took over Domaine du Coulet young and went biodynamic straight away, farming his steep granite slopes with horses and hand labor. Billes Noires is his serious, age-worthy cuvee, drawn from three old-vine parcels planted as far back as 1920 on deep decomposed granite, with tiny yields that pack in concentration even at a modest alcohol level. Given three years of maturation before release, this is inky, savory, structured Syrah, all bloody meat, wildflowers and cracked pepper over dark fruit that plays a supporting role to the wine's backbone.
