Miani's reds have drawn a cult following from the beginning, and this is Enzo Pontoni's Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso from La Mont di Zuc, one of the highest vineyards in the area at around 250 meters. Refosco is a dark, brooding native Friulian grape, and Pontoni bottles it as a single-vineyard wine only in the right years rather than blending it into a house cuvee. Since 2013 his reds have leaned toward finesse and nuance over sheer muscle, and this magnum captures that shift in a format made for the long haul. With fewer than 700 cases across the whole estate, a bottling like this is genuinely scarce. A serious red for the patient.
