Pergole Torte in magnum is the format the wine begs for — slower evolution, more graceful aging, a single bottle made for a serious table of six. Sergio Manetti's 1977 stand for pure Sangiovese remains one of Tuscany's pivotal moments, and his grandson Martino now stewards Montevertine with the same conviction. The 2022 is a standout in a warm-but-balanced Chianti year — phenolic ripeness, real freshness, great aromatic richness — raised in a mix of large botte and barrique. Dark garnet with licorice and bergamot, plum and red cherry; full-bodied with velvety tannins, vertical mineral lift, and a long, refreshing close. Lay it down for ten, fifteen, twenty years.
