Rivella makes just two wines from it, the Barbaresco and a serious Dolcetto. Montestefano is the most powerful of Barbaresco's crus, the one people mistake for Barolo, and Rivella works it the old way, with long macerations and long rests in big old casks. The 2001 vintage was a benchmark year in the Langhe, and this bottle has had a quarter century to turn its tannins into something silken.
