Stefan Muller, Riesling Kabinett Altenberg, 2024 [Pre-Arrival ETA 7/15]

This is Kabinett the old-fashioned way: low in alcohol, gently fruity-sweet, and strung along a wire of Saar acidity that keeps it from ever feeling heavy. The Krettnacher Altenberg is one of the great steep, cool sites of the region, and it hides a rarity, patches of green slate (Diabas) alongside the usual blue-grey. That unusual soil gives this wine a filigreed, apple-and-tangerine precision. At 7.5% alcohol it's a joy to sip your way through an afternoon, but it also has the acid backbone to cellar for years.
