Stefan Muller, Riesling Spatlese Euchariusberg "Alte Reben 1944", 2024 [Pre-Arrival ETA 7/15]
These vines were planted in 1944, when there wasn't much planting going on in Germany. Eighty years later, ungrafted and rooted deep in the gray-blue slate and quartz of the steep Krettnacher Euchariusberg, they yield a tiny crop of intensely concentrated fruit. This is a proper sweet Spatlese: honeyed and fruity, low in alcohol, but with the sky-high Saar acidity that turns sweetness into tension rather than weight. It's the kind of wine that tastes light on its feet now and will unspool for decades in the cellar. A genuine piece of history in the glass, from young grower Stefan Muller. Pre-arrival, landing mid-July.
