From Andrea Cortonesi's Uccelliera estate in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, founded in 1986. Rapace is a Super Tuscan blend of 70% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from vineyards at 150-350 meters elevation on calcareous-clayey soils southeast of Montalcino. Production is approximately 800 cases annually. The wine ages minimum 18 months in small French oak barrels, plus 6 months in bottle before release.
