Victoria Torres Pecis, Las Machuqueras, NV (2016/2019)
Victoria Torres Pecis is the fifth-generation custodian of her family's old winery in Fuencaliente, on the volcanic island of La Palma in the Canaries, farming ungrafted, centenarian vines on black picon soil with almost no intervention. Las Machuqueras is one of her most prized parcels, on the southern slopes of the San Antonio volcano, where the family has farmed for generations. This is the white, made from Listan Blanco off those old vines. The NV designation here reflects a multi-vintage blend spanning 2016 through 2019, adding depth and complexity. Wild, saline and unmistakably volcanic, these are some of the most singular wines in Spain, made in tiny quantities.
