Adega Damm Amandi, Cazoga, 2020
The wine of the house — literally. Cazoga is the lieu-dit where Martin Damm's stone cantina sits, and the parcel that gives the estate its identity. Damm, a former Danish therapist who became one of his country's most respected importers of Burgundy and serious Spain, bought the property and old vines in Amandi (Ribeira Sacra) in 2017 and made his first commercial release in 2019. Old, sometimes ancient, MencĂa and Garnacha Tintorera vines on the wild, terraced granite slopes above the Sil and Miño, organically farmed and worked by hand up and down the steps. Whole-cluster instincts, neutral oak elevage, no enologist, no fining or filtering for filtering's sake — pure Atlantic-meets-granite MencĂa. Limited production and increasingly hard to find.
