Julian Huber, who took the reins after his father Bernhard passed in 2014, sources from two parcels in Malterdingen - the 1950s block and a younger 1990 planting - and treats them with full Burgundian respect: classic vertical pressing, full destemming, spontaneous fermentation in barrique with about a third new oak (Damy), and 14 months on the lees. The 2023 is exactly what it should be: deep, calcareous, layered with ripe lemon and flint, full-bodied yet remarkably refined. The Burgundian DNA is unmistakable.
