Boasso, Barolo "Gabutti", 2019
This is old-fashioned, traditional Barolo from one of Serralunga d'Alba's great crus. The Boasso family began bottling under their own name in the early 1970s, taking the name Gabutti from the renowned vineyard where their vines grow. They have always worked in the traditional way: long macerations and fermentations, followed by at least three years of aging in large neutral wooden botti, letting the vineyard rather than the barrel do the talking. Serralunga is known for the most structured, age-worthy Barolos in the zone, and the calcareous marl and clay soils of Gabutti give this Nebbiolo its intensity and depth. The 2019 vintage is a classic one, so this rewards patience but delivers now with proper decanting.
