Borgo del Tiglio, Collio, 2023
Borgo del Tiglio's Collio Bianco is a three-varietal blend—Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling Renano—debuted in 1989 as an evolution of founder Nicola Manferrari's experimental work. Originally trained as a pharmacist, Manferrari assumed the family estate upon his father's unexpected death in 1981, and has spent four decades perfecting the textural complexity that Friuli's marl and sandstone soils (located 20 kilometers from the sea) impart to white wine. The high acidity of Sauvignon and Riesling balances the body and power of Friulano, while gravity-based cellar work and minimal intervention allow the vineyard's unique soils and microclimate to express themselves. The blend captures the essence of a vintage distilled into a bottle that rewards both immediate pleasure and cellaring.
