Brij, Grenache Slo Coast, 2024
Raj Parr quietly made his way to the Central Coast, and Brij is the negociant label he started farming in 2020 from Cambria. Named for his father, Brij draws on organic vineyards Parr trusts up and down California; this Grenache comes from the newly minted SLO Coast AVA, the cool, marine-influenced strip of San Luis Obispo. The fruit is direct-pressed with minimal skin contact and fermented in a 2000L foudre, which is exactly the approach you would expect from one of the sommelier-winemakers responsible for Sandhi, Domaine de la Cote, and Evening Land. The result is a Grenache pulled toward the Old World: pale and translucent, perfumed with red cherry, raspberry, white pepper, and dried herb, with a saline lift that reads more Cote-Rotie understudy than New World ripeness. Drink now and through the next several years.
