Bruno Verdi, Sangue di Giuda "Paradiso" Oltrepo Pavese Rosso Dolce, 2025
Sangue di Giuda, literally The Blood of Judas, is one of Italy's great fun, oddball wines: a lightly sweet, gently fizzy red from the Oltrepo Pavese in Lombardy, and Bruno Verdi makes a benchmark version. His Paradiso bottling comes from a single named vineyard and blends roughly 65% Croatina, 20% Uva Rara and 15% Barbera. Fermentation is stopped by filtration, leaving it with around 90 grams of sugar and a low 8% alcohol, so it's sweet, frothy and remarkably easy to drink. This is a seven-generation family estate that knows the style cold. Serve the 2025 well chilled. It's a natural with salami and aged cheese, and an unexpectedly great match for chocolate desserts or just a sunny afternoon.
