Cardedu, Praja Monica di Sardegna, 2024
A native Sardinian red that drinks like a darker, herbier Pinot Noir. Monica is one of the island's oldest grapes — light-skinned, aromatic, often overshadowed by Cannonau — and Cardedu is among the producers showing what the variety can do when farmed with care. Praja, which means beach in Sardinian dialect, comes from a single vineyard called Tenute di Fassoni planted on sandy loam. The Loi family ferments with native yeasts for about twelve days in temperature-controlled stainless steel, leaves it alone, and bottles it bright. The result is a chillable, low-fuss red with real personality: floral, lightly tannic, savory, and easy. Built for the warm months but happy at any table where simple food is being served.
