Cascina Baricchi, Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse, 2011
Cascina Baricchi stands alone as the sole producer of Barbaresco made entirely from Nebbiolo Rosé, an exceedingly rare Nebbiolo clone that was planted in the Casasse vineyard in 1913. Proprietor Natale Simonetta, trained by Bruno Giacosa himself, has dedicated his career to expressing the singular power and elegance of this clone on clay-limestone terroir. The wine undergoes 15–18 day fermentation with natural yeasts and an additional 10 days of submerged cap maceration before aging in large neutral botti. The 2011 vintage has reached full maturity, revealing the wine's signature earthiness, spice, licorice and autumnal complexity beneath its floral character.
