Caymus Vineyards, Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, 2020

Founded in 1972 by Chuck Wagner and his late parents, Caymus remains a family-owned operation dedicated to a singular expression of Napa Cabernet. The winery sources fruit from eight of Napa's 16 sub-appellations, blending the lush character of valley floor vineyards with the structure and freshness that cool-pocket sites like Coombsville contribute. Caymus's signature approach—extended hang time, low-fertility soils, dry farming, high-density plantings—develops suppleness, deepens color, and matures tannins to silky elegance. The 2020 vintage achieved the winery's goal: a wine that is approachable early yet built to thrive in the cellar.
