Chateau Cote de Baleau, Saint Emilion, 2020
Since the Cuvelier family's purchase in 2013, Château Côte de Baleau has established itself as a reliable producer of accessible yet serious Saint-Émilion. The 2020 vintage, almost entirely Merlot from the estate's cooler, north-facing vineyard on the eastern side of the appellation, delivers classic Right Bank character: medium to full-bodied with mouth-filling texture, ripe tannins, and plenty of mid-palate depth. Red and black cherry notes evolve toward leather, dried flowers, and increasingly mineral notes of chalk. Approachable now but will reward cellaring for 15–20 years.
