Mathieu Vallée took over Château Yvonne in 2007, keeping the name in homage to the previous owners; the entire estate has been farmed biodynamically since 2012. L'Île Quatre Sous — "Four Penny Island," named for an actual sandy bank in the Loire near Parnay — is the sandy-soiled parcel in the lineup. 100% Cabernet Franc from vines aged 20-70 years, fermented in concrete with native yeasts, no pumpovers (to keep extraction whisper-light), aged eight months in concrete with no oak. The result is what Vallée calls his "bistrot style" red: vivid, juicy, slightly peppery Cab Franc you can pour the night it lands. A slight chill is your friend.
