Ciro Picariello, Fiano di Avellina, 2024
Benchmark Fiano from one of Campania's reference producers. Ciro Picariello and his wife farm seven hectares high in the hills of Irpinia, split between the villages of Montefredane and Summonte at 1,600 to 2,100 feet, and that altitude is the secret to their electric, mineral whites. This is their estate Fiano di Avellino DOCG, fermented and aged on the lees in steel (no oak), built to drink well young but to age remarkably well too, ten to fifteen years easily. A white with real grip and a sense of place, for not a lot of money.
