Colombera & Garella, Lessona Pizzaguerra, 2020

Lessona, the smallest of Piemonte's wine regions with just nine producers, yields Nebbiolo of uncommon delicacy from its acidic volcanic terroir. The Pizzaguerra bottling—a blend of mostly Nebbiolo with a whisper of Vespolina—shows violets and dark red fruits on the nose, with wild strawberry and plum on the palate. Sourced from vines at 350-400 meters, these grapes develop a distinctive salty-minerality and lower alcohol than their Barolo counterparts, a signature of Alto Piemonte's cooler, higher-elevation sites. Traditional vinification and barrel aging from Colombera & Garella's collaborative winemaking deliver wines of refinement and aging potential.
