Corison, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2021
Corison’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from old-vine, dry-farmed vineyards on the western Rutherford bench—sites that offer excellent drainage, cooling breezes, and deep, gravelly soils. Cathy Corison’s approach has always favored moderate alcohol, low extraction, and restrained oak, resulting in wines that age gracefully and speak clearly of site and season.
The 2021 vintage was ideal: dry but not drought-stressed, with long hang times and beautifully preserved acidity. The wine opens with aromas of black cherry, cassis, violet, graphite, and cigar box, with a palate that’s textured but linear, showing firm but fine tannins and a long, mineral finish. There’s purity of fruit, but also savory complexity—more Left Bank than valley floor plush.
Drink it now with a decant, or cellar confidently for 15–20+ years. Perfect with lamb, roasted mushrooms, or aged cheddar.
