Cristom, Pinot Noir "Jessie", 2023
Jessie is the steepest of Cristom's four "estate family" Pinots — Paul Gerrie named it for his paternal grandmother Jessie Sommers Gerrie, and it climbs from roughly 320 to 550 feet on one of the most dramatic slopes in Oregon. Planted in 1994 to Pommard and Dijon clones at dense 2,311 vines per acre, the block forces roots deep through a patchwork of shallow Witzel and Ritner basalts at the top to deeper Jory and Nekia downslope. That density and soil shift produce a Pinot with extra lift and tension — Jessie's signature is its high-toned aromatics, floral perfume, and electric acidity. Whole-cluster fermented in Steve Doerner's classic Cristom style, the 2023 is fragrant, energetic, and altogether singular.
