Disznoko, Dry Furmint, 2024
Tokaj's modern dry-Furmint era has a flagship, and Disznoko is at the head of it. The historic estate — a single 250-acre hill of volcanic clay studded with perlite pebbles at the southwest entrance of Tokaj — was acquired by AXA Millesimes (the same Bordeaux-based group behind Pichon-Baron and Quinta do Noval) in 1992. They poured resources into replanting, restoring buildings and building a state-of-the-art cellar, and while Disznoko remains a benchmark for sweet Aszu, the dry Furmint is where the estate flexes its mineral, volcanic personality. The 2024 is bone-dry, electric and savory — apple skin, beeswax, crushed stone and a salty snap on the finish. A perfect introduction to one of the world's most underrated white-wine grapes, made by a producer with serious Bordeaux pedigree behind it.
