Division, Pinot Noir Yama Willamette Valley, 2023
Single-vineyard Willamette Pinot from one of Portland's most interesting urban projects. Kate Norris and Thomas Monroe founded Division Winemaking Company in 2010 with a European-trained sensibility — they look as much to Burgundy and Beaujolais as to their Oregon backyard. Pinot Noir Yama comes from the Yama Vineyard in the Willamette Valley, a single-site bottling that channels Division's restrained, food-friendly house style. The 2023 vintage in Oregon was warm and concentrated, producing wines with ripe fruit and good structural backbone. Expect a Pinot in the lifted, perfumed register — red cherry and raspberry up front, with savory undertones of forest floor, gentle spice, and Oregon's signature volcanic mineral lift. A great drink-now Pinot that will also reward two or three years in the cellar.
