Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot, Morey Saint Denis, 2020
The 2020 follow-up to the 2019 from one of the quiet stars of the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot is based in Flagey-Échezeaux and farms about nine hectares with parcels in six grand crus — Grands Échezeaux, Échezeaux, Clos de Vougeot, Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, and Charmes-Chambertin — alongside village holdings in Morey, Vosne, Chambolle, and Gevrey. The estate only began bottling its own wines in 2009/2010, and winemaker Thomas Colladot (a close friend of Sébastien Cathiard) has built a reputation for transparency and terroir clarity through long cold soaks and gentle extraction. This village-level Morey-Saint-Denis from the warm, generous 2020 vintage shows that personality plainly: ripe cherry, wild raspberry, sweet spice, and the savory undertow that distinguishes Morey from its neighbors. Approachable now and rewarding over the next decade.
