Maranges might be off the main Burgundy map, but in the hands of Domaine de Cassiopée, it feels like the region’s best-kept secret. Their 2023 Le Saugeot is a vibrant, organically farmed Pinot Noir with both rustic charm and Côte de Beaune elegance.

This vintage shows off the best of both worlds: fresh red cherry, raspberry, violets, and forest floor, with a whisper of spice and herbal lift. It’s medium-bodied, with fine, slightly edgy tannins and a savory, mineral-tinged finish that gives it grip without weight.

Winemaking is hands-off—native yeasts, minimal sulfur, old barrels—so the wine stays expressive and honest. The vineyard site, Le Saugeot, sits on limestone-rich soils at the foot of the hills, and that geology shows in the wine’s tension and clarity.

It’s a great food wine—perfect with roast duck, charred veggies, lentils, or even grilled salmon. Serious enough for Burgundy fans, but relaxed enough to open on a weeknight.
