Domaine de la Grosse Pierre, Morgon 'Douby', 2024
If Pauline Passot's Chiroubles is all altitude and lace, her Morgon 'Douby' is the deeper, broader, more soulful side of her lineup, and Morgon lovers shouldn't fret. The 'Douby' lieu-dit gives all the classic Morgon hallmarks: black cherry, licorice, warm spice, and lots of savory granite minerality, filtered through Passot's penchant for freshness and silk. Like all her wines it's made semi-carbonic with native yeasts, next to no sulfur, and aged in concrete to keep the fruit pure and lifted. The cold, wet 2024 vintage was tiny, which makes this fabulous, structured cru Gamay a small-production treat. Some of the most delicious and honestly-priced cru Beaujolais we've found.
