Domaine des Fables is Francois Gilles' tiny Alpine project, four hectares of steep slopes in Savoie's Chautagne, farmed organically and biodynamically with an eye for balance and biodiversity. If Gamabumba is the fun, gulpable Gamay, 'Les Chroniques de Gargantua' is the more serious one: 100% Gamay from 35-year-old vines, given a long whole-bunch maceration and aged ten months in barrel on its lees. The result is a deeper, more structured Alpine red that still keeps that mountain freshness and energy. Expect concentrated dark berry fruit, savory spice, and a fine, structured finish that rewards a little patience. Gamay taken seriously, from one of Savoie's most exciting small growers.
